Jonathan Dewsbury
Dr Jonathan Dewsbury is Director of Education Estates and Net Zero at DfE. He has responsibility for setting the long-term strategy for the Education Estate and delivering upon that strategy via construction programmes and funding streams. Jon oversees the technical teams that set the current and future standards for education buildings that will deliver a resilient, sufficiently sized and sustainable estate.
Jon’s previous role was Chief Sustainability Officer at DfE, UK where he was also responsible for delivering the DfE’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy.
Jon is a Senior Civil Servant, Project Delivery Professional, and a Chartered Civil Engineer. He has delivered major projects in both the private and public sector. Projects ranging from research, engineering (Northern Line Extension, Battersea Power Station, Riyadh Metro), construction, software, crisis (Brexit and Covid), transformational change, corporate reform and product distribution. He has a passion for innovative solutions and driving change. He was awarded his Engineering Doctorate for novel numerical modelling techniques for complex geometry in geomechanics, and has worked on some of the tallest towers and biggest metro/ /tunnel systems around the world. He is a graduate of both the University of Southampton and Said Business School, University of Oxford.
